Research, Teaching
and the Purpose of Catholic Higher Education - Pamela Taylor, Principal,
Newman College of Higher Education Pamela Taylor continues the conversation begun by Professor
Gerald Grace (June 2003 issue) on the preservation of a research
culture in Catholic colleges. She identifies areas in which the
collaborative work described by Gerald Grace and supported by
John Sullivan, notably in applied research that informs developmental
engagement in teaching and related social areas of activity. She
also interestingly extends the province of such research to the
future of the Church, linking school/parish interaction as one
area crying out for investigation “re-conceptualisation” of parish
development.
"Consecrated Persons and
Their Mission in Our Schools"
- John Lydon John Lydon from his perspective as teacher and part-time lecturer
engaged in doctoral research on Catholic Education, is well placed
to bring this latest document from the Congregation for Catholic
Education to a wider audience. John’s extensive piece is a must
for any student of Catholic education e.g. every teacher, governor…
This is much more than just a review of a Vatican document.
“BERA
a the Catholic Profile” Professor Gerald Grace Professor
Grace in this introduction to what has become a regular feature
of this journal, reports on the annual conference of the British
Educational Research Association (1999). He outlines the relatively
few contributions addressing issues in Catholic schools.
In a most
worthy attempt to address this imbalance, Professor Grace has
established The Centre for Research and Development in Catholic
Education hosted by the London Institute of Education. The article
outlines the actual contributions to the conference relating to
Catholic schools.
